    Absolutely loved this book.
It's like the hunger games the capital always wanted (except the end lol)
    Very sad about his wife
Also they married real young let's think about that
    A color coated society.. hmm..
I could actually see this happening but like without the colors
    Very good book, very deep
I don't even know how to explain it
Goblin Mustang god I loved all of them
Except Titus the rapist, he can go to
I woulda stabbed his _ I mean if you can't use it right u shouldn't use it at all am I right?
Seriously though that was messed up
Can't get over the main character, started off as some district 12 mine worked but turned out to be a hardcore intelligent Slytherin
    10/10 I recommend
    8/10 on main character
Also awesome character development can't wait to read the others

Liking this book so far. Been a while since I found one that I didn't lose interest of immediately. Haven't gotten that far into it, but I'm curious to see how Darrow evolves from a mere miner into a hero.

(actually written by Chris Johnson haha it was a jape)

An external issue is that Darrow has to deal with a crappy uncle and has to deal with being a slave in a hierarchy on Mars led by crappy miners with these jetpack boot things without losing his mind. The mood seems to be pretty grim overall in my opinion, with a few moments of happiness here and there, such as the scene where Darrow and Eo go in for a hug (if my memory serves me right) after Eo pushes her head into him as if she were a bull, or something.

The setting affects this character a lot because he has lived underground on mars mining for a mineral that would cultivate mars into a habitable place for people to live. His society is based on color rank which is like segregation and he is the lowest rank. He gets married and had a nice life even as a slave, but then at a meeting to determine the years victor for many supplies his wife receives a death sentence and is killed which then forces Darrow (the main character)to get revenge on the society by attacking it. He is taken up to the surface to realize that the entire reason he worked hard for was a lie and that the planet was already habitable, so he got angrier joined with an alliance against the government to destroy it from within.

The effect that the setting has on Darrows actions and choices is that he's a miner and the lowest class. He works underground as a helldriver in the Red color. Being a red and deep underground in horrible working conditions with a frysuit on makes Darrow upset when all there hard work goes to the color above them. My reaction to having to adapt to living on mars as a red would be hard. This is because Reds are lowest class and are treated horribley. They have little to no food. They do tons of hardwork and get nothing for it. I don't think I'd adjust well living as a red. They live in the hottest place underground and are starved.

I agree with you on thew fact that it would be terrible to live in a super hot place and starve, but it would be fun to have a big community.

I also think that it would be cool to have a big community where you know everyone's name and backstory the only problem with that is like in darrows situation where the tinpot know everyone and can see is a red is gone some where. I also think that is would be bad to live on a planet where you cannot go on a planets surface.

Mrs.Scheller the effect of the setting on Darrows actions and choices is that he is at the lowest social class and and his entire life is spent working for the higher classes. The higher classes treat his social class horribly by not giving them Food and giving them loads of work. My reaction to having to live on this planet with this
this type of society would be sadness, The lowest class always gets picked on by the higher classes and people get punished for just the littlest things that they do.
Overall this setting would be awful to live in and the setting effects Darrow alot.

the setting of Red Rising is the planet Mars, and the setting affects the story in the way their society is layed out, with the colors. the planet Mars has minerals inside that make life possible on its surface. the Reds, the people who work, they work in the many mines that lead down to the center of the planet. the atmosphere is polluted with toxic gas that can kill a human, but the many layers that go down and the glass domes protect the Mars people from death by un-safe air. the many locations inside the caverns include Lynching Ropes, fake gardens, and several apartment like buildings. these settings and the environment help influence the story.

I agree that the setting changed the setting a lot especially when he is sent to the surface and finds a city with people. It surprised me because I thought that the story would be an underground revolution.

Darrow's actions are pretty legit as his wife was killed so he got surgery to look like the most powerful being in their society and take over it to free his people who are pretty much slaves. They deserve to see the sun after all their hard work living underground mining minerals.

Darrow wants to set his people free so they don't have to dig for the golds in the mines anymore. His is want to give even rights to people (like being a civil rights leader). Even though he lost all lot of people on the way Darrow still wants to have justice and equality and to stop being a slave to the golds.

I Disagree with Darrow's actions in becoming a gold. there are several other ways to start an uprising or revolution, but he didnt have to hide as one of the Golds. Darrow and the Reds believe that if he can disguise himself as one, he can earn their trust. i disagree with this because if he gets caught, they will kill him. i prefer he had started a boycott until the golds give them equal rights. and they cant kill the Reds, as they provide all the supplies.

I think that Darrow had to become a gold because reds are super weak and the Gold are literally war machines with more war machines beneath them and then the have huge battle spaceships that destroy planets. So i think that Darrow Had to enter the Gold society to control one of the battle spaceships to launch a war against Golds.

Is an interesting story that relates the life of a boy who from his young age begins to work in a mine, he saw so many things in that mine as women selling their body for a plate of food. In that place it was so hot and hot that when his sweat ran down his body he felt a tingle and his skin became goose bumps.

A conflict in the story is when Darrow has to kill a friend in order to have a spot on the house and when he does he has to deal with the guilt. He then sees the brother of who he has killed and knows he will become an enemy later. Everyone had to kill someone but some were taking it better than others, because they were raised to kill.He regroups with the ones who are taking hard when they killed someone with their bare hands and tries to comfort them. They are then told that they will have a game of war. The teams will go against another house and fight them for land.

A conflict in this story is when Eo dies because she danced the death dance for what she believed in. How she died is when the golds servants strung her up and since their is not that much gravity in Mars Darrow had to pull her feet to break her neck. Darrow was so traumatized about this he wanted to kill himself until Uncle Narol stopped him. After that incident he was struck with guilt and shame to himself. He also meet Harmony and Dancer that showed how outside in the real world (since Darrow has been in the tunnels his whole life) Darrow saw how the golds and the softer colors already on Mars and his whole life was a lie and he didn't need to dig anymore. Darrow wanted to tell every reds but he knew that no one would believe him.

the theme or main idea of Red Rising is that people need to be treated equal. this is proven by the actions the Reds took against the other Colors. the Reds only wanted to be treated equal, and to do that they infiltrated the Golds (upper class citizens) by disguising Darrow, the protagonist, as a Gold. he used his abilities he learned to survive the game of capture the castle made by the Golds. Darrow then takes over the three other castles, but learns that the Golds knew he was a Red, and he could not win. he then won, because of his will as a Red to gain equal rights for everyone. that is why Red Rising is about equal rights

I totally agree on the main idea that this book is saying that people should be treated equally. I thought that when he disgusting himself as a gold was a risky move on his part but so far it has worked out in his favor and no one has discovered him yet so far. Darrow is a true survivalist and is a brave person so far.

A conflict in the story is that Darrows wife Eo has been killed by the tin pots and he wants revenge for her death.
After that he meets somenone name the dancer,The dancer shows him that the planet is already populated with golds and silvers. This is important because this is what really gets him to start a rebellion. My reaction to this event is that I was surprised that they already populated the planet.it is just surprising.

The most important conflict in the Red Rising is when Eo decides to sing the forbidden song and then say "break the chains!" She ends up getting hung and dies for that. That is starting a revolution first Darrow Eo's husband and main character decides to bury her (which is illegal) so then Darrow was hung for that ,but his uncle actually made a plan for him to survive and go to secret base with the sons of Ares.

I'm rather satisfied with the ending and look forward to reading Golden Sun sometime in the future. This book is a bit gritty, but it's not too gritty, in my opinion. There were a few moments here and there where I cracked a smile, because the small, "happy" moments of this book really hits me home in a way that entertains me. I believe it deserves the Gateway Book Award, not only for these two factors alone, but also because it's an interesting take on war that I myself would've never thought about, as well as a classic tale of revenge.

The book is very interesting and good, it is based on the story or the life of a young man who goes to work from the age of 16 to a mine. There spent many hours of work and asked people more than anything they were selling their body to the men who worked in the mine for a simple dish of food, he used an electric hammer and he said that after using it for hours he did not feel his hands. The sweat that voted his body he felt as he ran his whole back and chest and said that his skin was like a hen. The tube several accidents in the mine that fortunately proved unscathed.

The most important conflict (so far) is the choice Darrow makes to become a gold. He goes through a ton of surgery and physical therapy for months. Darrow has to change his eyes, hair, body shape, and bone structure. He becomes a whole new person. it was a major conflict because he can't go back after he does all that. And the part he worried about the most is Eo wouldn’t recognize him. It’s important to the plot because he couldn’t go through the process without feeling any conflict or regrets. I was pretty amazed, I didn’t think he’d go through with it or be strong enough.

One of the themes of my book, Red Rising by Pierce Brown is to fight for what you believe in. My first example, Eo said on her death bed, “’Live for more” she mouths to me. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out the haemanthus I gave her. It is smashed and flat. Then loudly she screams to all those gathered, “Break the chains!”’ (Brown, Page 45)This supports the theme because she is telling the people to not let the golds control them, that they should live the life they want to live. Also she is saying to do more than what you are told to do in your life, that there is more to do out there. Secondly, The book is all about being freed. To be freed they need to fight for it, so you can lead a life you want to lead. Finally, Darrow goes through a lot of tests and hard work just to be free. This shows that he is fighting for what he believes in. All of Darrow’s hard work will pay off. He will live a nice rest of his life. To conclude, break the chains, fight to be freed, and hard work will get you to what you believe in.

I agree that this book does have this theme and it shows examples of this theme in many ways throughout the book. Throughout the book Darrow is being motivated be his wife’s death and that gave him the emotional power to get through the entire journey that he has went throughout the book

the theme of Red Rising is that everyone can be equal. in the book, the Reds, a slave to the higher citizens, work in the hot and dangerous mines on Mars. after Darrow's wife dies, he changes his physical appearance to look like a higher up citizen, called Golds. This shows that if people are willing to change, even the slightest, that everyone can be equal. then Darrow has to battle the Gold's apprentices in a Capture the Castle like game. then, through each-other's blood, they all become equals. that is the main the idea and theme of the book Red Rising

My book has many themes to it but it has one major theme is to fight for what you believe in,There are many examples of this in the book like for example "There is so much more out there to live for" (Brown page 44).
This is when Darrow wife is screaming at him because he was denying to fight for something that could exist if he wanted to make it exist. Another example on how the theme is to fight for what you believe in is that through out the book Darrow constantly says 'this is what Eo died for." This is a Strong example why this is a strong theme for this book.

A common theme in the story is change happens for the better or worse. In the story Darrow had to change so his hometown could be free. He changed his hair face and body from a red into a gold to fit in to the gold society. Change is in many stories like in Goldilocks she changed porridges and beds, Ariel changed from a mermaid into a human. This theme is in many stories and they all had to adapt like Darrow. He had to change his behavior and personality. This was all done for a greater change to happen in the society.
